SLA, police harass former LTTE members in Batticaloa district – TNA MP

Sri Lanka Army and police are harassing former members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in Batticaloa district.

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Batticaloa district parliamentarian P. Ariyanenthiran said that the government forces are applying various methods to harass ex-combatants and members of the LTTE who surrendered to government and were released later.

He said SLA and police are collecting personal details of former LTTE men and based on that information they are checking house to house. They harass the former Tigers in the name of interrogation.

The personal details are collected through the Village Officers in Batticaloa district, Ariyanenthiran said.

Referring to complaints made by the affected persons, the MP said the family members of LTTE war heroes are also being harassed by the SLA and police.

He accused the government of terrorizing Tamils, saying it will have a adverse impact on the peace process initiated by the government.
