Toronto: Twenty months after the conclusion of the armed conflict in Sri Lanka that resulted in the killing of tens of thousands of Tamil civilians, the climate of state-terror in the Tamil regions continues. As allegations of violations of international law and human rights by Sri Lanka during the final stages of the war continue to mount, so does the amount of killings and forced disappearances. Journalists for Democracy in Sri Lanka (JDS) report that, Within the last two weeks of 2010 the violence against northern Tamils were reported from a region with a disproportionate military presence where independent media and voluntary organizations are barred. This includes but not limited to the killing of a Deputy Director of Education, a chief priest, an environmentalist, and the abduction of a school teacher.
