Sinhalese minority complex

Prof. Susirith Mendis, a Sinhalese, has written a good article on the Sinhalese minority complex, which has been the root cause of the Sri Lankan ethnic problem. They carry down stories from generation to generation to perpetuate this insecurity. A mother, who saw her son rolling on the bed restlessly, asked him why he was unable to sleep. "How can I sleep in peace when I am surrounded by Tamils?" came the answer. Many Sinhalese refer to the Tamils as 'Tamil paraya'. This has been going on for generations, culminating in a series of riots that eventually led to Mullaivaaikkal Genocide of 2009.

They don't look upon themselves as a majority in SL, but as a minority in a hundred million Tamil world. Unfortunately for the Tamils, the Sinhalese leaders from  the date of independence in 1948, continued with this mindset by first disfranchising the Indian Tamils and then marginalising the Sri Lankan Tamils. At least three of the My3 Sirisena leadership retain this criminal mentality. Chandrika and Ranil are no angels, and Fonseka completed the genocide in May 2009. Now they talk of reconciliation among the races, but it looks more like consolidation for the next move..

The article below, though a bit of difficult reading, is worth spending the time spent. The writer says that it is time the Sinhalese reexamine their guilty conscience, like the way the Germans do today.
