Sri Lankan military, the occupying force in Jaffna, is now involved in the registration of individuals and families in the peninsula

Local sources said Sri Lanka Army soldiers are distributing forms among local Tamil residents asking them to fill those with information and are also asking them to give family photographs along with children.
Human rights activists working in Jaffna have compared these activities of SL military with the Nazi practices before the Holocaust, saying their activities have created fear among the people in Jaffna.
Local people said such registration was limited to the resettled people from Vanni only but citing the some incidents of killings and robberies took place recently, the military has brought all the residents under the registration process.

Meanwhile, TNA parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran has raised the question today that whether the registration of civilians in Jaffna is taking place according to government instructions or from the SL military command occupying Jaffna.
At the end of 1990s, the occupying SL army had asked the people of Jaffna to display their family photographs at the entrance of their houses and it continued until the beginning of the peace process. Even Tamils living and visiting Colombo were also asked to register with the police.
But when the war is no more, then what is the necessity of taking up such Nazi-style registration, residents in Jaffna question.
